The hula series is offered in a 3-, 4- or 6-week schedule depending upon venue and location. The series are always at a beginner level. Beginning October 2025 all series classes will be 60 minutes. Prices may vary between venues. Typically, venues handle the registration unless otherwise noted below. The series are usually run May-August in the off season of the hula school year or in different venues than where regular classes are typically held.
In the 3-week series in each class, each week we will explore a different style of hula. The 3-week series is a really good introduction to show you the differences in each style although you will not be focused on learning a choreography in depth. One week we will explore hapa-haole, another week will explore traditional (kahiko), and the third week will explore modern hula ('auana).
The 4-week series may vary in which style of choreographies are taught (traditional kahiko , modern 'auana, or a hapa-haole hula). You will learn one beginner choreography in the 4-week series. In the 6-week series you will learn at a minimum two choreographies.
Each class will include a warm-up, 30 minutes of drilling steps, choreography practice, and a cool down/stretch. Practice videos and notes are not provided in the series. This is a great low impact cardio workout, and you'll also stimulate your mind all while learning a little about Hawaiian history, culture, and about beautiful places on the islands. If you decide you want more, consider joining the hula studies program where we go deeper and you also have the opportunity to perhaps eventually perform with us.
Space is limited depending upon venue, but this will be a more intimate learning experience than the workshops but not as in depth as the hula studies.

Join us on the beach for Hawaiian Hula! Classes are typically offered on the beach during the off-season (September-May) and will vary in location and time of day depending upon the tide, local events, and weather.
Dancing in the sand is hard and requires more balance than in the studio. I know it sounds fun and pretty, but please keep this in mind. Many of our beaches are sloped but we try to find a flatter area for the group.
After an hour of hula-ing in the sand, you may feel like you've been swimming or snorkeling for a while! Your appetite may be higher after also - just like swimming for some people!
In these classes, no choreography is taught.
You will learn basic foot work, arm gestures, and hand motions. We are moving our bodies to beautiful music enjoying nature.
You are strongly encouraged to attend a class in the studio first to really learn the footwork. Consider attending a workshop, dropping into an introductory series, or Polynesian Dance Class.
Announcements will be made on FB and IG with days/times and which beach access along the Crystal Coast we will be meeting at. (Anywhere from Fort Macon to Emerald Isle.)
Payment may be made by Paypal or Venmo below. Cash on-site is accepted also. You are strongly encouraged to register or email Amanda to let her know you'll be coming. In the event the class is cancelled (weather changes), you'll be notified. Please arrive a few minutes early to handle payments if paying by cash and please bring exact amount to make it easier.
*Cancellations are requested 48hrs. prior to start of any event. *Cancellations less than 48hrs. or no shows will result in a forfeit of returned funds. *By registering for this event, you agree to the policy.

Beginner friendly! Slower choreographies and less cardio focus than the regular series or hula studies classes - just graceful movements to keep us active and learning.
Great class for those just getting back into a fitness routine at any age and for 55+ ladies. This class is also suitable for those that need to remain seated - as hula is all about the hands/arm motions.
At some locations this may be called Senior Hula,
Silver Hula, Slow Hula, or Kūpuna (respected elder) hula.

Fun, invigorating, educational, and relaxing 90-minute introductory events to explore hula.

These events are often co-facilitated with area teachers to incorporate a techniques or skills beneficial to the hula dancer. A most recent workshop combined Thai Massage/Yoga with Hula! Another workshop combined three different dance styles into an afternoon of dancing!

Occasionally throughout the year, other hula teachers will offer workshops in the area to highlight their lineage and share choreography. You'll find information about those opportunities here. (I'm not affiliated with, just love education, sharing, and supporting!)
Hula is a Hawaiian movement practice and art used to tell a story and convey emotions. These workshops introduce this beautiful heart-filled practice. Hula is a wonderful way to connect with the body and heart through gentle and graceful movements of the hips and arms.
Those new to Hawaiian Hula and experienced dancers are welcome to these workshops. This is an opportunity to try hula and to experience how Amanda teaches hula.
In the 90-minute workshops, students will receive a brief history lesson of Hawaiian Hula and an introduction to two styles of hula along with an understanding of the differences seen in lineages of hula. Students will learn and drill between seven and nine beginner hula steps and will be instructed on two easy choreographies at a minimum within different hula styles. You will get a cardio workout but this is a low impact activity.
One style shared during the workshop, is from the era of hula (1940's-1950's) that some may call the hapa-haole or Hollywood style. The second style students will experience is hula kahiko (traditional/ancient). Each is very different, and you'll leave with a better understanding of what you might see at resorts, luaus, and on TV.
Please bring a yoga mat for our cool down and stretching after. You can wear regular workout clothes and come as you are. Also bring some water. If you like to take notes, you may wish to bring a notebook or journal.
Check the current schedule for upcoming workshops. Check back as dates are added. You can also follow on social to see upcoming workshops.
*Cancellations are requested 48hrs. prior to start of any event. *Cancellations less than 48hrs. or no shows will result in a forfeit of returned funds. *By registering for this event, you agree to the policy. *Ages 18 and up.
Some events require registration directly through the hosting venue whereas others may be directly here on this website with Amanda. If the events registration is handled through another venue, their registration and cancellations policies apply, and you'll need to register directly with that studio.
