As a university lecturer for her "day job", Amanda Todd, Ph.D. is a human geographer specializing in the intersections of nature, cultures, and spiritual beliefs/practices. She has taught for 18 years in higher education settings in-person, hybrid, and distance learning classes. Amanda has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses and seminars.
Amanda also presents programs for college students through the Office of Global Engagement in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at her university. She also has taught mind-body classes focused on hula at several college recreation centers and partners with the LiveWell office offering Hawaiian Hula experiences in addition to her work with labyrinths in higher education.
Outside of higher education, she has taught environmental science programs and hula to K-8 students for summer field camps, town recreation center summer programs, after school programs, public school field trips, and to homeschool groups. She previously taught for a few summers, a hula camp for 5-14 year olds and weekly classes to keiki (children).
Amanda is available for talks about Hawaiian Hula to various groups and ages. On request, the talks can also (and usually do) involve audience participation. The talks are informative, engaging, and with the intention of respecting Hawaiian traditions.
Amanda's presentation was not only informative but also deeply engaging, offering us a glimpse into the rich traditions and heritage of Hawaii. The Hula dance lessons provided were an absolute highlight of the event. Her passion for sharing her knowledge and preserving Hawaiian Culture shines and we feel truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from her. - D. King
