All of the hula classes taught by Ms. Amanda and Ms. Shelley are 30 minutes in length for 3–7-year-olds and 45 minutes in length for 8–18-year-olds. Classes include various age-appropriate hula numbers for the class. Both instructors teach the same material. The hula taught follows the lineage of hula Ms. Amanda teaches adults and she follows how her Kumu teaches Keiki classes.
Ms. Amanda directs and guides the hula curriculum for kids. She also has input from local K-12 teachers who also dance in her performance group and study hula as adults themselves with her. This is a real hula community working together.
For 2026-2027 all keiki classes are $40/month.
Hula is dance, an art, a cultural practice and it is not just about movement. Each keiki class will include a theme each week based upon the principles of the Aloha Spirit. Stories covering Hawaiian mythology may also be shared. Stories about places and people, or types of birds unique to Hawai'i in the meles (songs) is also important to go over and fun to discover! Lessons on the Aloha Spirit may also be found within the various stories. The classes will be a mixture of talk story and movement and lots of fun!
It is more than a word of hello and goodbye. It is more than a salutation. Aloha means mutual regard and affection and extends warmth in caring with no obligation in return. Each person is important to every other person for collective existence in relationships with Aloha. In adult and keiki classes we end each class with a pau and an aloha. (Pau meaning the end.)
We will always share what we are talking about in class each week. (OiwiTV has some great educational animation films of myths on YouTube and there are other great Hawaiian educational sites as well.)

The opportunity is available for keiki who dance monthly in the hula school program to perform at various local festivals in the summer. There is an additional fee in purchasing the group pa'u performance skirt, dress, and adornments. Additional information will be made available to dancers' parents in February. Dancers must have been dancing for 6-months consecutively to perform and be enrolled by January in classes to be eligible. Performance is at the discretion of the teacher and director of the group.
With all instructors covering the same choreography material, the groups will be combined at performance time. Depending upon the hula choreography, the keiki may also dance along with Emerald 'Aina Hula Dancers. (And yes, we've had moms and daughters before and grandmothers and granddaughters dancing together!)
